Dash Point State Park
Dash Point State Park on Puget Sound is a 161 ha or 398-acre state park in Washington that spans the King-Pierce county line. Beachcombing, fishing, swimming, birdwatching, windsurfing, skimboarding, and animal viewing are all available at the park, which includes over 140 campsites, 3,300 feet of shoreline, and 11 miles of mountain biking trails and hiking.
History
The region was previously known as Fairview Beach, Woodstock Beach, and lson Landing, before becoming Dash Point. It’s uncertain where the representation Dash Point came from. By 1877, the place had been given the name Dash Point on the maps. In the late 1940s, the McLeod family sold the site to the State of Washington for a park. For the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair, the park was the most developed.
Popular Attractions
During the summer, Dash Point State Park is the most amazing attraction for Federal Way residents. Low tides disclose extensive expanses of beach on the point because of the patterns of tides, allowing plenty of area for visitors to enjoy. Skimboarders are frequently seen on the beach. Every year in the summer, Dash Boards hosts a competition.
The park’s trails are popular among runners. The trail network’s entrances can be found throughout the park in the North East Tacoma and the Federal Way.
Since 1800, three missions have been taken place on the site. The park was created and dedicated for the 1962 World’s Fair in Seattle. The campground and the park are situated on a bluff overlooking Puget Sound. The Puget Sound is a body of water that carries ocean waters 50 miles inland from the Pacific Coast, but it is also much more. Marine creatures ranging from sand dollars, orcas, and sharks to sea urchins can be found in this diverse region. Dash Point State Park is a great place to learn about marine life.
Canoeing, skimboarding, kayaking, kite flying, fishing, and swimming are just a few of the beach activities available at Dash Point State Park. The Pacific Flyway, which parallels the Puget Sound Lowland, is a key migration path for North American waterfowl.
Winter showers, infrequent snow, dry summers, and mild temperatures are all part of a maritime environment. Snow rarely lasts more than a few days in the winter because the temperature is frequently above freezing. The park is open all year, though some areas may be closed during the winter months.
Transportation
Dash Point State Park can be reached by RV or car. The park is accessible from Tacoma to the west and Federal Way to the east and is located off Interstate 5. All of the park’s principal features, including the campground, boating areas, and picnic sites, are easily accessible via local roads. If you’re going in a huge RV, keep in mind that some park roads are limited and located in wooded regions. Because of all the parks, beaches, panoramic vistas of the Puget Sound, lighthouses, and 509 are considered the scenic route to anything in the south Seattle area.
